Caesium bromide, CsBr

The Caesium bromide, CsBr, is produced by the interaction of caesium sulphate and barium bromide. It forms anhydrous cubic crystals, melting at 627° C., and boiling at 1300° C. The vapour- pressure in atmospheres is given by the expression

log p = - 36750/4.57T+5.113.

The density of the crystals is 4.380 at 20° C., and 4.455 at 21.4° C. Its heat of solution is -6.73 Cal. It is characterized by the formation of complex polyhalides.
